DURABLE EASY READING SIMPLE STRONG....GREAT!
I am slowly converting my watch collection from a mix of self-winding automatic and a few quartz to all Citizen Eco-Drives. This is the latest addition and I am delighted with it. The watch is a "beater"...it will be perfect for weekends travel and whenever you want a watch that can take anything. The stainless steel case and bezel have a satin finish and the screw-down crown is knurled. The dial is an oil black not a flat black as you might expect in a "military" watch. The large numbers and markers have a ton of luminous material and glow like beacons in a dark environment -- perfect for night viewing. The second hand is precisely registered with the second markings on the chapter ring. The crystal is a flat hardened mineral crystal with an anti-reflective coating (presumably on the interior of the crystal) so there is very little reflection. This is a large 42mm diameter watch -- not including the crown {which is guarded with shoulders]. It is not clear if the woven fabric band is nylon or some other material; it is well made and the holes for the clasp are reinforced with stainless steel rivets. I really like this watch and ... at a mere $105 ... this is a great buy.

Outstanding Looks Great Timepiece
I considered this purchase from the viewpoint of an already satisfied Eco-Drive owner. My original Citizen features a titanium case and strap and is great for business attire. But I wanted a less formal watch for casual wear. This watch caught my eye and it was love at first sight. The watch arrived after about five days as advertised. Upon opening the box I was taken aback by the size. This is a large-face watch and I was expecting something about the size of my titanium case. I was considering returning it then decided to give it a try and sell it on eBay if I didn't like it. As it turns out I got used to it after a couple of days. The canvas strap became a little more pliable which helped the watch stay in place better on my wrist and the discomfort of the band disappeared. Now I can focus on enjoying the big face and oversized luminous digits which glow extraordinarily bright when exposed to a light source at night. Like my original Eco-Drive this watch keeps excellent time. So far I have not detected a single second's variance between checks and settings. If you order this watch keep in mind that the face is larger than most and that you'll have to be patient while the canvas strap gets pliable.

Good Time
The learning curve on this watch if you use it for fishing may take some time. The moon phase is nice to know about and the sunrise and sunset is pretty cool too but I didn't give this watch 5 stars because for the money it didn't give me the one option I used more than any other on previous cheaper watches a timer. This one has the stopwatch but there is no timer you can set for say 10 or 15 minutes. It keeps great time so far but that's typical of Casio. The backlight is very bright enough so that you can almost use it as a flashlight and the option on this model where you can set it for the backlight to come on everytime you hold your arm a certain way is cool. If you're looking for a good water proof timepiece and you don't really care about the timer issue this is the one. And yeah I'm vain about what it looks like on my arm; it looks manly and cool.

Very nice watch
I ordered this watch from Amazon and it arrived before the estimated delivery date. I love the watch and it looks much better in person than in pictures on the web. Quality is very good and the hands line up perfectly. The luminova is evenly applied and lasts longer actually all the way through the night which I didn't think would be the case. The only feature I don't like is the canvas band which I found uncomfortable. I'm sure it's fine for others but still a black leather band for less than (...)(any jewelry store or online store) compliments the watch very well and it no longer looks like a 'weekend watch'. One small point about the Eco-drive that some other reviews I've read overlooked: Citizen Eco-drive models DO have a battery. The solar cell stores energy in a rechargeable mangenese-titanium battery. The battery should last a very long time according to Citizen engineers who project that even after 20 years the battery should retain 80% of recharge capacity (on their website) but only time will tell... no pun intended. Speaking of time the watch is pretty accurate. I've had the watch for one month and during that time it has lost less than one second when compared to the US national time (www.nist.gov). In sum: this is a very well constructed watch that I feel is worth the money.

Great Watch
I upgraded to the eco-drive from a watch that recharged by wrist motion. So far I'm a lot happier with the eco-drive. It holds a charge a lot longer so it's not a problem to leave it unworn for a day or two. I didn't like the green military style band on this one but it was easy to swap for a leather 20mm band. The stock band was a tad small for my wrist. I would expect a lot of men would need to swap it. The numbers look big in the picture and they're big on the watch. I like the big numbers others might not.
May 2008 Update:
I still like this watch as much as the day it arrived! It works perfectly never runs out of battery and looks good. For those of you who haven't paid for a decent watch you might not realize you're missing out on a good quality glass / crystal face. Mine still is scratch free. The watch looks pretty much brand new even though I wear it every day.
